Infomercials- If Only It Was That Easy

There are tons of health related infomercials out there.  They sell exercise programs and equipment, weight loss programs, back products, and other health products or services.  These infomercials prey on today’s society that is looking for that quick, easy fix.  They use deceptive images and actors, testimonials (they look real and sound real, but are they real?), and the big thing they use is marketing hype.

Marketing hype- their marketing is all about excitement and letting you know that they know the exact thing you need.  Often they use time to get you to act now.  Order in the next 5 minutes and get XYZ free or hurry act fast only 5 remaining.  This is so you make an impulse buy.  They know that if you think about what they are actually saying there is no way you would believe them.  But it is risk free, there is a trial offer or you can get your money back if you return it in 30 days.  If you can actually get a hold of their 1 customer service representative they will proceed to tell you that you have to pay shipping to return it to them.  In some cases it is cheaper to just keep it because it would cost more to ship it back.  In many cases you have to jump through so many hoops to return it that it is not worth it.

Exercise actors/actresses- man do they look good.  I didn’t know that squeezing that thing in your hand could get the get your calf muscle such a workout, but by watching them you can see every muscle in the body flexing so it has to be a full body workout.  Who knew it was that easy in just 2 weeks of squeezing that thing you will have muscles on your muscles.

Weight loss programs- similar to exercise.  In just 6 weeks you can lose 30 pounds without exercising or changing your diet.  How great is that?  Some of the pills they sell trigger water loss so you might actually see an initial weight loss.  But dehydration is never good and it will be a short term loss anyway.  Others try to steer you toward products that are sugar free, reduced sugar, low fat, etc.  The sugar free or reduced sugar products may have less calories but they are foreign substance to our body; therefore, in many cases they can lead to weight gain as well as other health problems. (Artificial Sweeteners)  Low fat products have similar reactions in the body they eliminate fats they our body needs and can process and replace them with man made substances that can have serious health effects.

Health products are the worst.  Their entire goal is to sell you on hype that a product is the answer to your health problem.  Most of these products actually do nothing.  Some might give certain people some relief, but it is certainly not a solution for everyone.  Unfortunately some of these products can make you worse.  Especially, if the product is a pill, potion or lotion, or something that interacts with your body’s biochemistry.  There are tons of contraptions and procedures to help back pain like the True Back, decompression, inversion, etc. but there is little evidence that supports the claims they make on TV.

Sorry, I know it isn’t fun or easy but eating right, exercising, and working at getting your Innate, subluxation free will help you fix problems, not just get short term changes.  If you want to buy a product, research it, go to the BBB, get product reviews from an outside source such as Consumer Reports.  Remember the harder you work for it the more you will appreciate it and work to maintain it.
